I’m Considering a Full Middle School Curriculum Revamp… Would You Be Interested?

I have been doing a lot of thinking lately about my old middle school physical education curriculum and lesson plans. When I was teaching, I built a full year of units, daily lesson slides, learning goals, and assessments. It worked well, but now that the new SHAPE America standards are out, I keep asking myself one question:

What would this look like if everything were rebuilt from the ground up and fully aligned?

I am strongly considering making this my summer project. The idea would be to completely revamp my middle school curriculum for grades 6-8 so every unit, every lesson, and every assessment aligns directly to the SHAPE America standards and grade span learning indicators.

This would not just be unit outlines. These would be complete, ready-to-use daily lesson slide decks.

Each lesson would follow a consistent structure designed for clarity, student ownership, and maximum MVPA. The goal would be to create something teachers can project and use immediately with no additional editing.

Each lesson deck would include:

• Title slide with unit and day number
• Quick agenda slide with consistent daily routines
• Day-specific warm-up aligned to the weekly structure
• Dynamic stretching options with student choice
• Full agenda slide with lesson flow
• Learning goal and evidence aligned to SHAPE America grade span indicators
• Skill practice, small sided games, game play, fitness game, or MVPA choice lesson structure
• Progressive skill development tasks when applicable
• High MVPA expectations built into every lesson
• Beginning of class checking for understanding questions
• Middle or end of class checking for understanding questions
• Standards-aligned assessment components
• Rubric slide
• Exit ticket
• Unit PowerPoint hyperlink slide
• PE GIFs folder hyperlink slide
• Standards and learning indicator slide

The learning goal and evidence would follow Fisher and Frey principles and align directly to the assessment and checking for understanding questions. The structure would also ensure consistent routines, student clarity, and meaningful physical education experiences.

These would be designed specifically for middle school and intentionally scaffolded so 6th-grade, 7th-grade, and 8th-grade students are appropriately challenged. Skill practice days would include progressive tasks. Small-sided games would emphasize strategy and application. Gameplay days would include modified rules aligned to the lesson focus. Fitness and MVPA days would emphasize continuous movement.

This would essentially become a full year of standards-aligned, ready-to-use lesson slide decks.

Before I dive into this as a major summer project, I wanted to check with all of you.

Would this be something you would actually want?

Would you use fully built, SHAPE America aligned, middle school lesson slide decks?
